Dr. Melvin Miles (1937-2025)

The society extends our sincerest condolences to Dr. Melvin Miles’ family, friends and colleagues.

Dr. Miles was one of the first to report observations of a correlation between excess heat and helium-4 measurements in his group’s electrochemical experiments at the Naval Air Warfare Centre Weapons Division, China Lake.

A dedicated and long time member of the field, Dr. Miles published over 100 papers on condensed matter nuclear science, and collaborated with Prof. Martin Fleischmann on the analysis and reanalysis of experimental data. Dr. Miles recieved the society’s Truffle Prize in 1999, courtesy of Fiat. He was, in the words of Prof. David Nagel of George Washington University, ‘a scholar and a gentleman.
